Pool FAQ's

How much does a pool cost to build?

Swimming pools are more affordable than you might think. The cost varies depending on a number of important factors including; the type of pool (in ground, on ground and above ground); project size and scope of work; new construction versus renovation; individual builders and service companies; site work; and options such as water features, landscaping, etc.  You can install a simple above ground pool in your backyard for as little as $1,800.  Add some decking and stylish accessories and you have a high quality installation with little fuss.  An in ground pool designed and installed by a professional pool company will cost around $20,000.  About the same price as a nice family vacation.

Examples above are guide prices for a 12x24' pool size, an average size for a family pool.  Prices are for the pool itself, and any associated pipework, filters and pumps.

Prices don’t include any excavation or dirt removal since these are dependent on site conditions.

What type of pool should I choose for my family?

Your overall lot size will determine what type of pool is appropriate for your family, in terms shape, style, etc...it really depends on how you plan to use your pool.

If exercise is the most important factor , with the use of a counter current unit to swim against, you can swim effectively in a pool as small as 8x3' if space is really limited. If you desire a pool that reflects a backyard oasis that will be the perfect setting for entertaining, relaxing and overall enjoyment then a shaped pool is most suited.

How long does it typically take to build a pool?

It generally takes between 8 to 10 weeks from excavation. Depending on the size and complexity of your project (not including landscaping).  Obviously, unforseen factors can alter the schedule, the weather, customer change order requests, permit delays, etc, can effect the project, but a good builder will communicate and coordinate with you to ensure successful pool construction and complete customer satisfaction.

How much maintenance does a swimming pool require?

In the past, pool maintenance was more of a chore.  But because of today’s technology and conveniences, owning a swimming pool is easier than owning a vehicle!  Pool chemical testing, cleaning, and pre-programmed filtration and heating can all be automated.  Automatic pool cleaners and various sanitizing devices also make your new pool easy to maintain.

What about warranties?

Pool warranties are a very important issue.  At Clear Choice Pools we provide you with one of the strongest guarantees in the pool industry.  We are confident in the product we build, and we offer a warranty that backs it up.

How do I keep my children and pets safe around the pool?

Safety is a primary concern for swimming pool owners. Clear Choice recommends in automatic pool safety cover as your number one choice for security.  It will not only keep children and pets out of your pool when you are not there, but will also keep the pool clean and minimize heat loss.  Wrought iron fencing and other pool barriers are available with self closing/latching gates that help provide necessary security.  There are also pool alarms and cameras with attached alarms that turn on with any motion poolside and set off an alarm in the house.

If I don’t want to use chlorine...what are my options?

There are many water treatment systems for sanitizing swimming pools, and each has it’s pros and cons.

Chlorine, the most affordable choice, sanitizes, oxidizes, kills algae effectively, and can be used on it’s own, but it produces a strong smell and adverse effect on bathers skin, hair, eyes and clothing.

Bromine, a commonly used sanitizer for spas and indoor pools,  sanitizes and oxidizes on it’s own, less odor and less damaging to skin and clothes but dissolves slowly, is more expensive and unlike chlorine, cannot be stabilized.

Ionizers, use natural and safe metallic ions to eliminate some bacteria, kill algae and are easier on your eyes and skin but can’t oxidize and it can’t be used on it’s own.

Ozonators, are effective oxidizers, but must always be used in conjunction with a sanitizer such as chlorine or bromine.  On average ozonators are expensive equipment that requires expert installation and maintenance.

Mineral Purifiers, reduce chlorine usage (can’t be used with bromine) by dispensing a variety of bacteria-killing elements including minerals, ozone and small levels of chlorine but can’t be used on its own.

Chlorine Generators (salt water pools), actually create chlorine in your pool or spa without you having to measure out and handle chlorine.  These generators are electrical devices that use salt added to the water to manufacture chlorine.  The benefits to this system is the soft quality of the water, and is less likely to irritate or dry out your skin, however you still must maintain a correct water balance.
