Disconnect & Store Part 1 |
- Disconnect the pump, close the circuit breaker, then disconnect and store the hoses linking the skimmer (or three-way valve), the pump, the filter and the water return jets.
- Set the three-way valve handle to the 50/50 position or, better yet, remove it and store it.
- Remove the pump plug(s), empty the pump and store the plug(s) in the strainer. Do not store your pump until you’ve completed the following step.
- Remove the pressure gauge, the glass bottle and the filter plug, store them in the pump strainer, and place a small piece of wood under the filter to prop up the side opposite the drain (to ensure proper drainage); leave it in this position throughout the winter. Set the handle to the “winterize” (or “close”) position, or between two settings, and cover it with a plastic bag fastened with string or a tie-wrap. For cartridge filters: remove the cartridge and clean it according to manufacturer instructions.
- Pour four liters (1 US gallon) of pool antifreeze into the hose linking the skimmer and the bottom drain (if applicable) and insert the appropriate tubular etafoam protection in the skimmer hole.
- Insert the appropriate Styrofoam protection device into the skimmer.
