Troubleshooting
Problems?
Should you encounter any of the following conditions, they require your immediate attention:
  • Sand near the water return jet: this may be caused by a leak in the underground piping or a break inside the filter (sand filters only). For the first scenario, contact your local pool specialist. For the second scenario, check the filter or have it checked.
  • The filter is not supplying enough pressure or is not filtering properly: backwash the system immediately. If the problem persists, perhaps it’s time to replace the sand (or filtration glass beads).
  • Air bubbles are mixing with the water from the return jet: there is probably a leak in the suction line or connections, typically the ones connecting the skimmer to the pump. You could attempt to locate the leak yourself but if you fail to find it or if the hoses are underground, contact your local professional.
  • The patio stones or interlocking bricks covering the underground hoses are sinking into the ground in certain areas: there may be a leak in the underground hosing. You could attempt to locate the problem yourself but it is recommended that you contact your local professional.
  • The pump is overheating, has stopped working at full capacity or is making a strange noise: disconnect the pump and bring it to a qualified technician for repair or maintenance. It also may be time to change the pump.
  • The pool is losing water: if you notice that your pool is losing water but that the leaking stops when the water level is directly below the skimmer, the water return jet or directly above or below an underwater light, the water loss is most likely due to a leak at that location. Check the connections, hoses and lighting conduits accordingly. This situation may require parts replacement or even professional assistance. If the pool stops losing water at another level, check the pool walls at this height: there is probably a leak in one of the walls that can be repaired using a patch kit. Be sure to check the area where the ladder comes into contact with the liner. If the water level continues to drop, the hole may be in the pool floor: if so, start to refill the pool to prevent the walls from falling in (above-ground pools) and contact your local professional. You may complete certain repair jobs yourself but if you are unsure of your repair work or if you fail to locate the leak, don’t hesitate to call in a professional.
Closing a pool without following the proper instructions can void the warranty and make the opening process that much more difficult in the spring. But since you closed your pool using recommended best practices, you, and your pool, can hibernate in peace!

Enjoy your winter!
